What's new?

Oh nothing thanks for asking. Well that's not really true, but I haven't shot a thing this week. Instead I've been having meetings and making plans and thinking about images for a potential book (exciting!) AND logging a lot of time on the computer. Just browsing and getting ideas and inspiration...and looking at lots and lots of wedding blogs. I love to look at invitations (especially letterpress varieties) and trinkets etc.

David Reilich sent me some photos from his recent bridal show booth and he has some great stuff- I love the idea for the table with photos...of course:

Another thing I'm obsessing about this week is Stanley Kubricks photography. I couldn't sleep one night and a documentary was on about him. I had no idea he started as a photographer for Look magazine. You should see some of his photos- really amazing! I can't find much of his stuff online, but there is a book at Amazon that looks promising.

I'll try the library first though...

Also- I've been on the South Beach diet for a week and  I am wretched grouchy! That's about it for me so far this week though :) Hope you are all enjoying the cool weather today!

One from Thursday

I went to Louisville on Thursday to take some portraits of Dr. Mohsen -who is the newly elected president of the ASEE- he did a very nice job!

Today is a good day

I'm going to need a couple of extra days on my learning to cook series as I'll be in Louisville on Thursday for a shoot, then shooting in town on Friday and Saturday...so maybe Sunday?

I did a design experiment today (like all day) and it was such a flop, but still- today is a good day!

Ok- it tastes better than it looks!

It was so hard deciding what to try and cook for this first entry in this series! It has been a rather rainy morning so even though it's May -soup seemed appropriate. I looked through a few books and this one sounded pretty tasty and not too difficult so I gave it a try :)

I heard about this cookbook on PDN's website. Jason Fulford did the photography and it sounded rather interesting so I ordered it. Interesting it is...and a very unusual cookbook- probably the only one I've ever actually read like a book. It's the story of a tiny restaurant in NY and the man and family that owned it: Eat Me- The Food and Philosophy of Kenny Shopsin.

Blog1  The soup I tried to make was the tomato soup. I started by making a marinara sauce (pg 236) and the croutons (pg 150)- THEN I made the soup:

2 cups marinara sauce
1 cup chicken stock
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 T grated Parmesan
1/2t fresh garlic
1/2t butter
salt

The instructions bascially say to put all of that in a blender and "whack it together"...check...then you just warm it up! It turned out a pretty ugly color, but I was surprised when I tasted it- sort of like...tomato soup! I'm calling this one a victory even if it is ugly :)

Calling all Farmers

well- Farmtown farmers :) I need another neighbor so I can sell my dumb cart and barrels and most of my "Friends" are a bit snobby about farmtown so if you need a neighbor please look me up- under Stacy Newgent :)

I have a very nice farm- I'm a good neighbor too!

A girl learns to cook...

I've been buying lots of cookbooks- no- not checking them at the library, but actually buying them to keep because I like to look at the pictures. So today I was trying to justify another cookbook purchase and I thought to myself- you know- I could USE these cookbooks to actually cook something! What an idea!

Of course the problem is that I'm a terrible cook- I ruin everything. Could using an actual recipe help me? I don't know- it might be hopeless, but atleast it will give me an excuse to continue buying cookbooks, take some photos and just maybe create something edible :)

So look for "a girl learns to cook" series...right here on the blog on Thursdays- very exciting! I'm going to get a new book to celebrate :)

And Happy Memorial Day!

Exitlude and daydreaming

I'm leaving my job with Dine and I had this daydream that when I told everyone I was leaving they would sing me this song...they didn't of course, but wouldn't that have been the best memory :)
